Home Homeowner's Corner Mentor's Corner Articles Links My Notary Business Is A Success With Connections
I am a firm believer in making my business a success by establishing and keeping connections with businesses that are related to mine. And, yes, I even recommend other notaries in my geographic area that I know are thorough and experienced if I can't do the work. It makes good business sense to do that. Why leave someone to go to a notary directory once they have called you, you can't do the work, and you personally know someone who is also good? That's a personal recommendation. You know it speaks louder than simply saying, “I'm sorry, I'm booked for that time. Have you tried any of the notaries in XYZ Notary Directory?” Worse yet: “I don't know of any notaries that are not connected to title companies or attorney's offices. Have you checked the Yellow Pages?” One thing is for sure. Notaries are in demand, and with e-Notarization and verification of identities of other people for secure signature purposes, it's getting more diverse all the time. One of the best connections I have as a notary is with some of the law firms in town. Yet I got started in this area by helping my nephew out when he first branched out on his own in a single lawyer office. Guess what? HE recommended me to someone else! I now go to businesses and courthouses all over the area. And I'm always looking for more business. I will even work with some title companies to help out when personnel are on vacations, maternity leave, or ill. Another good connection has been with insurance agencies. With the concern over authenticating ID's, and the patriot act, many places of business such as banks and title companies are very reluctant to notarize a signature for someone who is not a customer of theirs. Many people call insurance agencies for help in finding a notary. If you've let the agency know about you, they will get you name for that individual. If the person is new to the area, I will try to plug the agency when I notarize the document. So I always ask the agency to let me know if they have recommended me to someone. Another thing. I don't have any qualms about recommending the place I get my ink cartridges/toner for my computers; or the current best place to get paper, notary stamps, logs, embossers, etc. I also take time to recommend the manufacturer of the desktop and laptop I use. I took time to evaluate several different brands, and bought the one I did as much on reputation for customer service as I did on other considerations such as price and technical specifications. Why not let someone else benefit from that time.
